What to Expect From Your Contact Lens Exam

  • Regular eye exam

    During your comprehensive eye exam your optometrist will check that your eyes are healthy and will test your vision to determine your contact lens prescription.

  • Contact lens consultation

    During your contact lens exam your optometrist will check for dry eye symptoms and consult with you to determine what type of contact lenses are the best fit for your lifestyle and vision needs.

  • Contact lens fitting

    For ideal vision correction and comfort, contact lenses must fit well. Your optometrist will examine the size and shape of your cornea and pupil to ensure the right fit.

  • Contact lens trial and follow-up

    Your optometrist will insert trial lenses and ask you to keep them on for 15-20 minutes to be sure the fit is comfortable and vision is clear. After a few days, you'll come in for a follow-up evaluation.

Can dry eye sufferers wear contact lenses?

Usually, yes. While some types of contact lenses can aggravate symptoms of dry eye syndrome, such as eye dryness, redness and irritation, other contacts are perfectly suitable for dry eyes. Speak with an eye doctor near you regarding your dry eye symptoms, and they'll prescribe the perfect contact lenses for ultimate comfort.

Can a child wear contact lenses?

It's a case-by-case basis. Typically, eye doctors don’t prescribe contacts to children under the age of 11 or 12, though there are exceptions. Wearing contact lenses requires responsible care, including cleaning and disinfecting routines. Most teenagers can handle contact lens care if they’re motivated to wear contacts.

Do I need an eye exam and prescription for tinted contact lenses?

Yes! Even if you’re just using contacts to change the color of your eyes, you still need an eye exam and a prescription. Contact lenses are a medical device and require fitting by an eye doctor.

This is actually a 6 star review. Outstanding! I dropped in to have two pair of sunglasses nose pie... ces replaced. I was blown away by the amazing attitude that the extremely friendly workers had. Especially the worker behind the desk that worked on my sunglasses. Selection of glasses are excellent pricing is some of the best I've ever seen. Dr. Jones is awesome. I have an array of complicated health issues and it's always hard finding a ph... ysician that gets it. Dr. Jones gets it and makes you feel comfortable the whole experience. He was very thorough and understanding of my issues, making the visit a pleasant one. I don't gush for anybody, so this means a lot. I have had so many bad experiences in healthcare, but that never happened here. My eye insurance changed and nobody local to me took the new insurance. My son (same insurance) reco... mmended Wear. He recommended Dr. Jones specifically. I saw Dr. Graff for my initial visit and then Dr. Jones for a follow-up visit. Office staff was very friendly, Dr. Graff was very efficient and fun and Dr. Jones took the time to review my new glasses v old glasses and gave me options on adjusting to the new script. I’ve been seeing Dr. Jones for over 10 years. He has a way of making you feel like you’re the mo... st important patient. I love the high-tech equipment that he uses to provide a thorough exam and that he explains everything to me in a way that makes sense. I’m severely near sighted And he always makes sure I understand what we’re talking about and that my vision is corrected in a way that I like. The office is small and everyone is really friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Wear Eyewear. Oh! I forgot to mention they have an amazing selection frames. They range from basic to high-end brand names like Channel and Gucci plus a lot more.
